Open the hood and BAM the engine is the only thing there. The exact opposite of fussy wires and plastic.

I’ll admit there is a certain allure. Here is one of my favorite shaved Miatas. Not quite to the same degree as your examples, but as someone hunting around in a miata engine bay all the time, it blows my mind. Where did everything go ?!

So they used to try to deter people from working on their car by confusing the shit out of them, rather than simply putting it under lock and key like they do now.

I mean it is neat, but that means you stuffed everything electrical inside that car and probably the passenger foot well. And well that just sucks. I am all for a clean and tidy engine bay, but shaved? No thanks it just looks wrong to me.

I prefer a mix of shaved and covered. I call it, highlighted engine or featured engine. Hides bits and displays others. Check out the wiring for the coils. It’s under a loom bolted to the valve covers because neatness.

Is moving all of that from the engine bay making it easier to work on the car? Or as easy as it was before? (I dont even want to know what that is like)

these are people that take their vehicles to “professionals” when work needs to be done........ working on it remains the same, just “write the check” so to speak...........

*not that there is anything wrong with being money ahead enough to be able to pay someone else to do the work for you.........

It’s not a mess though. Some are full of wires going to inexplicable places.
